This news flash is to inform members of recent activities and future aspirations.
The Annual General Meeting of our members was held at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club on 17 March 2014.
We would like to thank all those members who attended and for the apologies of those who were unable to attend.
It was confirmed that proper governance was in place and a good set of Financial Reports were submitted for 2013.
By way of a vote members agreed to change our financial year to a period 1 January to 31 December while still being in line with fiscal requirements from March to February each year. The reasoning here was to enable the collection of subscriptions by the end of January each year.
Members voted to allow a new category of member (age45-49) to our membership.
Special Rules and Regulations for this category of member will be ready by the end of July 2014. These members will not be eligible to play in our 3 major events to be announced. (SA Senior Open, SA Senior PGA Championship, SA Senior Players Trophy.)
We are pleased to advise that a design of a new website is under way.
In future members will be given access via a password to the ‘company environment’ that includes:
There will also be open access to a public domain with specific links.
We hope to have the website up and running by 31 July 2014.
It was announced at the AGM that State Life Assurance would sponsor an event for R1 million to be held in either Welkom or Parys with a date to be advised in 2014.
The SA Senior Masters (Witbank) and the SA Senior Open (venue to be confirmed) will take place again with minimum prize Funds of R250 000 & R 100 000 respectively.
It was decided at recent Directors and Player’s executive meetings that we hold our major events from the last week in October to the first week in December 2014. This time- frame to include new events like the SA Senior PGA Championship and SA Senior Player’s Trophy. We are convinced that sponsors will be found for these new events.
In addition to the above 5 Tournaments, all over 54 holes at present prize fund values, we have the Fidelity Pro-am series that offers members, as a condition of entry, an opportunity to enter with an amateur partner in a team better-ball stroke play format. Professionals still compete individually in a stroke play for an estimated R30 000 prize fund per event every 2 months. These are Order of Merit Events over 18 holes. The next event is at the Eagle Canyon Estate scheduled for 8 July. Entry fee R700 per team.
Arnold Mentz, a past commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, has been given a mandate to seek sponsorship for us. We are hoping to achieve success in securing an umbrella sponsor for our tour with events going into 2015 in January, February and March.
Nico van Rensburg has also a mandate to seek sponsorship on our behalf.
Added to these people are your committee members who are active offering our member skills to many potential sponsors.
The 2013 S A Senior Tour Order of Merit and the Exemption List for Order of Merit Events for 2014 per exemption category is available from the Tournament Director. These will be displayed at the venue of each event together with the current 2014 OOM. Members are urged to check on their category.
It may be necessary to hold a qualifying school in early October for members to improve their playing status and for new members to gain status.
The Parliamentary Series talked about last year is on hold until your management can refresh contact with Cape Town and the Sports and Recreational Council.
Entries for OOM events close 21 days before the start of the event. The Tournament committee reserves the right to accept or reject an entry after this date. Payment must accompany the entry that may be made by EFT, debit/credit card or by bank cash deposit. Arrangements may be made to make payment via our speed-point machine through the TD. Proof of payment may be required at registration, 24 hours before the final draw is produced. (3 days before the start of the event)
Registration must also be made with the TD on the day of the first round of the event as well.
Entries will be accepted by the TD by phone, email, and fax or on-line when this facility becomes available. Entrants may also register with the TD by the same method.
No Shows/ Late Withdrawals from any golf event/Non- returns

A member who withdraws his entry within 7 days of the start of an event will forfeit his entry fee. The member will be liable for his entry fee even if the fee has not been paid within this period.
A member who withdraws during an event for any reason will not be paid from the prize fund even though he has made the cut.

Sunshine Tour & PGASA
We are in discussions with these mature golfing organizations and hope to conclude partnerships with the same by the end of July. We will keep you informed and we trust that some sponsorship will come in line with our affiliation agreements.
The S A Golf Association assisted us in Rules Officiating at last year’s SA Senior Open and recognizes our organization as the official golfing body for Senior Professional Golf in South Africa.
There are many members who have not paid their annual subscriptions of R600. The subscriptions were due on 31 March 2014 and they have been extended as receivables to 31 May 2014.
Members who have not paid by this extended date will be suspended from the SAST membership and transferred to the suspense affiliation membership account, where a penalty of R1000 plus the outstanding subscription amount will be imposed to re-instate membership.
Those members who have difficulties in paying their subscriptions can make arrangements with Barry Bothma, the Treasurer/Secretary.
This serves as an additional notice that a special general meeting will be held at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club on 23 June 2014 at 10am with the purpose of amending a few items of the Articles of at Association/Constitution. This meeting is solely for this business and golf is on offer at R400 per head that will cover the green fees, amateur and professional prizes.
A special notice will go out to members 21 days before the SGM.
We are looking to secure an office facility as our Head Quarters.
